Gran Canaria, in addition to having beautiful landscapes, offers more and more leisure establishments at different points thanks to the shopping centers in Gran Canaria where you can go shopping, eat in a good restaurant and spend a different day in the same facility.
Today, shopping centers are associated with human and social reciprocity, that is, they have become a meeting point in which the inhabitants express their tastes and interests in leisure activities and restaurants.
Shopping centers in Gran Canaria have had a positive impact on society due to their proximity, comfort and ease of access, which are also key points that define the user experience in these premises.
For this reason, many of these centers offer gyms to promote a healthier lifestyle, cinemas to promote the island’s culture and restaurants that cover all economic ranges, service styles (buffet, fast food, a la carte…) and gastronomic offer (Italian, Japanese, American…).
There are more than 10 shopping centers in Gran Canaria distributed throughout the island. For this reason, it is one of the most commercial islands of the Canary archipelago, together with Tenerife. If we go to the capital, in Las Palmas we find a commercial city made up of the Las Arenas Shopping Center, the 7 Palmas Shopping and Leisure Center, Los Alisios, El Muelle Shopping Centre and El Corte Inglés.
Next, in the municipality of Telde are the Las Terrazas Outlet and El Mirador shopping centers located next to the Jinámar coast.
On the other hand, in the southern part of the island, there are the Atlántico Shopping Center, Varadero, Yumbo Centrum, Boulevard El Faro, El Tablero and, our latest addition, Mogán Mall.
However, the Las Terrazas Outlet, Boulevard El Faro, El Tablero, Los Alisios and Mogán Mall shopping centers offer a different experience thanks to their open concept, without leaving closed spaces behind. Therefore, its nature and the air that is breathed is completely different from that of other shopping centers in Gran Canaria. Consequently, it makes shopping much lighter and more enjoyable. However, on the few days of rain and wind, you should bring a coat and an umbrella. What’s more, you can even wait for it to pass under the conditioned areas to take shelter from the intense sun and raindrops.
Next, we present a list of the most outstanding shopping centers in Gran Canaria by municipality:
To begin with, in Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, we find numerous shopping centres: Las Arenas, El Muelle, Los Alisios, the 7 Palmas Shopping and Leisure Center and El Corte Inglés.
At the end of the Paseo de Las Canteras in Las Palmas, we find the Las Arenas Shopping Center, this being one of the best known and most visited on the island. It has a total of 98 shops and 23 restaurants distributed over three floors as follows. First, the upper floor that has a huge terrace where you will find the gastronomic offer of the establishment. Secondly, both the upper and lower floors contain clothing stores, technology stores, toy stores, home decoration stores, and aesthetic stores, among many other options.
With the opening of the Los Alisios Shopping Center, the inhabitants of Gran Canaria experienced an incredible change in the implementation of technology. Instead of being a common shopping center, Los Alisios has included touch screens on floors for children, digitized directories at car park entrances, 64 electronic recharging points and a screen with a kinect system.
Los Alisios has two well differentiated plants. On the ground floor you will find all the fashion, accessories and beauty, home, electronics stores, among others, as well as coffee shops such as Starbucks and Dunkin Coffee, to take a break between stores. On the other hand, on the top floor, it is reserved for the gastronomic offer in which we find recognized restaurants such as The Good Burger or Canarywok.
For the little ones, Los Alisios offers a train that runs along the ground floor until it makes a complete turn and reaches the starting point. If you prefer to have control in your hands, upstairs is Toy Car, which offers a unique experience in which boys and girls can be the protagonists.
In addition, Los Alisios is located at the foot of Tamaraceite along with Decathlon and Leroy Merlín. If you want to visit a shopping center in Gran Canaria with a family atmosphere, Los Alisios is your place.
The El Muelle Shopping Center is characterized by its location, being minutes from Santa Catalina Park, the Elder Museum, the Poema del Mar Aquarium and Puerto de la Luz. A rest area, 15 fashion and accessory shops and 10 entertainment venues, such as a cinema, a gym and 6 restaurants, are distributed on its 3 floors.
The 7 Palmas Shopping and Leisure Center is located in the most commercial area of Siete Palmas. It differs from the rest of the establishments due to its proximity to El Corte Inglés-Hipercor and the Ciudad Deportiva (Gran Canaria Stadium, Gran Canaria Arena and annex).
This establishment has 4 floors with 90 premises, nine movie theaters, sports facilities such as Urban Planet and a children’s play area at the Lego Fan Factory.
Gran Canaria has two establishments of El Corte Inglés, in the same way, both are located in the capital of the island. One is in the Mesa y López area and the second is at the beginning of the Siete Palmas commercial area. Currently in Spain, El Corte Inglés works with 140 brands. Likewise, you can find all the establishments on the map that we have integrated at the end of the article.
With its opening in 2008, Las Terrazas was, in fact, called the largest shopping center in the Canary Islands and brought with it an innovative aspect to the island: an open leisure space. Consequently, Las Terrazas and El Mirador complement each other and are only a few minutes by car from one another.
The following two establishments are located on the edge of the island’s main highway, the GC-1, making it much easier to reach. Both have two floors in which the different premises are distributed and in which a united and familiar atmosphere is breathed.
What’s more, the best thing about Las Terrazas and El Mirador complementing each other is that what you can’t find in one, you can find in the other. Next, we present the services offered by El Mirador:
The Atlantic Shopping Center located in Vecindario becomes a key rest point for both travelers heading north and south. Inside, this center has 83 stores in addition to cafeterias and restaurants.
In the south of the island there are many of the shopping centers in Gran Canaria. Therefore, we will talk about the most outstanding: Varadero Shopping Center, Yumbo Centrum, El Faro Boulevard, El Tablero and Mogán Mall.
We change the municipality and, with it, we change our perspective. The Varadero Shopping Center is located on Paseo de Meloneras and offers more than just traditional shops. In fact, this center offers extraordinary activities such as a boat ride or a Quad Safari Tour. That is why this shopping center is unique. You can find a catalog with the most outstanding and amazing experiences in Gran Canaria.
Yumbo Centrum is characterized by its great support for the LGBTQ+ community and, on its four floors, they provide services ranging from clothing stores to jewelry stores, restaurants and beauty centers. In addition, it has Mantrix, the best-known gay nightclub in the south of the island.
Boulevard El Faro is a shopping center in Gran Canaria located in the middle of Avenida de Meloneras where you can enjoy a walk with the sea breeze. It is made up of more than 45 commercial premises from different sectors: fashion, leisure, restaurants, services and a HiperDino Express supermarket.
Located in the El Tablero area, this shopping center in Gran Canaria offers an open concept where you can enjoy the feeling of summer on the terrace on the top floor. Also, you can go shopping comfortably in more than 30 shops.
Finally, Mogán Mall is the most innovative shopping center on the island with open spaces and has 41 shops and 13 restaurants and bars. Without a doubt, this establishment is characterized by its luminous fountain that comes to life every Friday and Saturday with colored lights that create an amazing show. Of course, this shopping center was built to spend a day with your family, your partner or in groups.
If you sign up for the The Venice of Gran Canaria excursion, as a result, you can choose between going to the Mogán Mall or Playa de Amadores. It is an experience that you cannot miss!
In addition, all of these malls have assigned bus stops near the entrance to improve the accessibility of the population on foot to the facilities. They also have a car park for customers who travel in their own vehicles.
It is becoming more and more obvious that shopping centers are a good option to spend a different day with our loved ones by continuously offering a unique experience. Shopping centers with a magnificent open space, a familiar atmosphere and full of new sensations await you in Gran Canaria.
